Western Union and SBM bank do not process any transactions to and from countries in the sanction list.

Does SBM Bank offer Western Union services to external clients?

Yes. External/walk in clients can access Western Union services as long as they meet the necessary terms and conditions. This also serves an opportunity for cross-selling other bank products.

Do I need to be an account holder to access Western Union Services?

No, you do not need to be an SBM Bank Kenya account holder.

What do I require to send or receive money via Western Union?

You will need the following:

To Receive:

  • An original ID for citizens and the unique reference number. 
  • A valid passport with a valid visa for all non-residents and the unique transaction reference.

 

To Send:

  • Your original national ID/Valid Passport/Alien ID/Military ID
  • Sender’s full name
  • Sender’s mobile number
  • Sender’s address
  • Reason for payment
  • Source of funds
  • Beneficiary’s full name
  • Beneficiary’s mobile number
  • Beneficiary’s address
  • Beneficiary will need a reference for access of funds

If I give out wrong beneficiary details, can this be amended?

Yes, an amendment of the below can be done just once for the following:

  • Beneficiary name
  • Beneficiary mobile number
  • Beneficiary address
